The Hudson Valley has a rich, diverse agricultural tradition and our working farms provide the scenic backdrop that makes our region such an appealing destination. Keeping farms viable and attracting young farmers is critical to feeding not just local residents but the entire state. With our world class soils, agriculture is the past, the present and future in this region. It is an economic engine that can create jobs on the farms, at farmer's markets, and in related businesses that support the agricultural industry. Locals and visitors alike are attracted to locally grown meats, vegetables, dairy products, wine and beers that are served in regional restaurants and hotels. We need to be proactive about protecting our regional farmlands and encouraging our schools, food markets, and other institutions to tap into the regional bounty.
