Oliverio Challenges McKinley - Again -to Release Tax Returns

For the fourth straight month, Northern West Virginia congressional candidate Mike Oliverio is challenging his opponent, David McKinley, to release to the media his recent personal income tax returns and the returns of businesses with which he has formed partnerships.
"I don't understand why it's so important to David McKinley to hide his tax returns. We're asking the public to put their confidence in us, so I firmly believe we need to give voters a look into how we handle our personal finances," Oliverio said.
"I've done this. Why won't he do it?"
McKinley has come under scrutiny recently for the excessive amount of state contracts his business has accepted, using a fellow legislator to scout business on his behalf and mismanaging the Republican Party's finances while he party chairman. Oliverio has publicly challenged McKinley since June to release his tax returns.
"With David McKinley's track record, it seems that he would want to release his returns," said Oliverio campaign manager Curtis Wilkerson.
Oliverio said in a television ad in March that he believes all members of Congress should disclose their tax returns.
"Because of the importance of the job I'm seeking and the jobs members of Congress hold, I think releasing tax returns is the right thing to do," Oliverio said.
In late March, Oliverio made his family's two most recent tax returns, 2007 and 2008, available to the media. The Oliverios later filed their 2009 tax returns, and Oliverio said he will be happy to share the most recent information with media members.
Oliverio, of Morgantown, has served the past 16 years in the West Virginia Senate. He is also a successful 22-year financial representative for Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company.Enter page content here.
