Issue Position: Transportation

Issue Position

Highways and infrastructure are an essential part of attracting economic development to rural locations, including many Idaho cities and towns. A good transportation system promotes our state's economic growth, while also improving personal mobility and quality of life. A good transportation system moves products from the farms and factories to distribution centers, and then to the stores and consumers. It allows us to move safely and efficiently to school, to work, and around our communities as well as across our states and the nation.

Any good transportation legislation must allocate highway funds in a way that acknowledges the national interest in transportation investments in and across rural states, not just in populated areas. Without good interstate and arterial routes in states like Idaho, business and pleasure travel as well as interstate commerce are detrimentally affected. There is no question that the federal highway program must make a substantial net investment in Idaho's highways.

I will continue to support federal highway funding programs that recognize Idaho's unique geography and transportation needs.
