Issue Position: Homeschooling

Issues: Education

One of my core beliefs when it comes to education is that no parents should be forced to send their child to a bad school. Therefore, it is imperative that we work with parents to help them find the most appropriate educational environment for their children. For a growing number of people across the Granite State and America, that's homeschooling.

I have seen the successes that homeschooled children have had and know that the parents are among the most committed and dedicated that I have ever met. As Governor, I will work to ensure that the State of New Hampshire remains just as committed to giving homeschooled parents and kids the tools to become the best they can be.

Because I believe we must stop the ongoing efforts to throw cumbersome regulations onto homechooling parents. I commit to veto any legislation that will work to burden homechoolers. Furthermore, I will make sure that the state Department of Education knows that New Hampshire is committed to provide educational freedom for homeschooled children, so that they don't work to pass onerous rules. If a bill easing homeschool regulations gets to my desk, I will sign it.

To me, providing the best education for our children means empowering parents, first with the freedom to find the best opportunities for their kids, then by giving them access to the tools for success. The parents who take on the awesome responsibility of homeschooling should be helped, instead of being given obstacles and challenges.

I'm running for Governor to ensure that we protect the freedoms for homeschoolers and everyone else in this great state. The "Live Free or Die" spirit still beats strong across our state, even if it is under assault from many different angles. I will restore our legacy and bring back the New Hampshire values that make our state the best place in America.
