I am optimistic about our future as a nation. I believe strongly in the American dream. You may wonder why I feel so positive in this time of such frustration and pessimism. Honestly, it's because of you. I know that the American people are paying close attention to their federal government and elected officials. I know that you are attending town hall meetings and speaking out about the important issues facing our country. And I know that you are casting your vote against those politicians who refuse to listen to the voice of the people. When we as a people participate in our political system, things always improve.
When I think of the problems we face as a country today - record deficits, out of control spending, an ever growing federal government and unbelievably high unemployment - I realize that most of our problems have been created by 536 people sitting in Washington. 435 members of the House of Representatives, 100 Senators and the President of the United States.
I think that the politicians in Washington just don't get it. They create the problems and then campaign against them. Someone (that's where you come in) has to remind them what they were hired to do-- solve the problems, don't create them! That's why we hold elections. When you vote in November remember this -- The President proposes the federal budget. If he is serious about reducing spending and the deficit -- it starts with him. The American people don't vote on appropriations -- the Members of the House of Representatives do. We don't set fiscal policy -- Congress does.
What they can't ignore is the voices of three hundred million Americans. Your vote this November is hugely important and will send a strong message to Washington insiders -- Listen to the American people and do the job you were hired to do, or go home and live in the mess you've created.
Together, we are going to get America back on track! Invite your family and friends and neighbors to join our effort.
