Speaker Pelosi called lawmakers back to Washington for an emergency session to vote to bailout states. U.S. Representative John Boozman voted against approving the $26 billion bailout to state governments and issued the following statement.
"It's unfair for the people of Arkansas, who are constitutionally required to balance the state budget every year, to continually come to the rescue of irresponsible state governments who play fast-and-loose with their accounting books. While the Federal Medical Assistance Percentages (FMAP) extension is important to Arkansas and certainly something I can support, it's unfortunate that Speaker Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Reid decided to include this in a bill that bails out reckless state governments. It's irresponsible for other states like California and Illinois that have failed to rein in their spending to be free-loading off the hard work and sweat of Arkansans."
