McCollum Introduces Energy Legislation

Press Release

Date: July 23, 2010

On July 21, Congresswoman McCollum introduced the Thermal Renewable Energy and Efficiency Act (H.R. 5805) to increase the use of proven technologies that produce clean, affordable and secure American energy. Taking a Minnesota model nationwide, Congresswoman McCollum's legislation offers incentives to increase the use of district energy and combined heat and power systems to heat and cool buildings throughout the country. St. Paul's District Energy facility is a prime example of an energy-efficient system, which heats and cools dozens of downtown office buildings and the State Capitol. The companion bill was introduced in the U.S. Senate by Senators Al Franken (D-Minn.) and Kit Bond (R-Mo.).

"The best kept secret in this country is district energy technology, and St. Paul's District Energy facility is a premier example of a system heating and cooling dozens of downtown office buildings," said Congresswoman McCollum.
