Dear Friends,
Tone Deaf?
The American people are tired of Washington politicians turning a deaf ear to their wishes and concerns. This was extremely apparent just last week when Congressman Dave Camp put forward a proposal to repeal the provisions in the government health care takeover that mandates Americans buy government-run insurance. This popular proposal was defeated by Washington liberals by a vote of 187-230.
Do you want an out-of-touch Washington bureaucrat forcing you to buy government-run insurance? I certainly doubt it, but tell me what you think on my Facebook page. I do not think that Washington bureaucrats know what is best for South Carolinians or their families.
It is high time to restore the freedom to choose. The freedom to choose health insurance that best fits a family's needs and small business needs. Let's swamp this government health care takeover for an affordable, patient-centered health care solution.
I have one such solution: the Siding With American Patients (SWAP) Act to repeal the government health care takeover and replace it with the text from H.R. 3400 -- a patient-centered and affordable solution that expands access and continues to cover pre-existing conditions.
Stop Playing Politics with Troop Funding
This update is particularly disappointing and frustrating. A troop funding bill is being held up by some lawmakers so they can add in billions of dollars in so-called "stimulus" funds and special interest monies.
Partisan special interest monies and a hodgepodge of stimulus funds have NO place in a troop funding bill. We need a clean, non-contentious bill that can pass easily so our military operations are not disrupted. Secretary Gates has warned us not to hold up this essential spending, or else defense spending will suffer, meaning our troops in harm's way will be at risk.
As a father with four sons in the military, nothing is more important to me than making sure our troops on the front lines receive the funding they need. With two counter insurgency operations going on in Afghanistan and Iraq, it is highly irresponsible to hold this up any longer.
I urge Democratic leadership to do the right thing and bring this war supplemental forward as a clean bill for quick passage.
Sincerely,
Congressman Joe Wilson
Member of Congress
