Issue Position

Indiana's single greatest responsibility is providing a high quality education for every Hoosier child. This includes:

* Providing appropriate levels of funding for the education of all our children regardless of where they attend school
* Providing high quality early childhood education, including extending full-day kindergarten to every Hoosier child
* Providing free text books for every Hoosier student
* Relieving schools and classroom teachers from unfunded mandates and nonteaching assignments
* Seeking greater efficiencies in our schools and school corporations
* Offering more professional development opportunities to our teachers
* Assuring that cultural competency training is implemented in an effort to curb urban drop out rates
* Keeping the cost of higher education affordable and providing more financial aid to low- and mid-income families
* Making sure that every Hoosier has access to Indiana's public colleges and universities
