Today, Rep. Bill Foster (IL-14) released the following statement after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced it would not make a decision about raising the ethanol blend wall until the fall -- a delay from a previously expected announcement this summer.
"I am deeply disappointed by the EPA's decision to delay increasing the ethanol blend wall. As a scientist, I understand the technical aspects at play. I have obtained information from industry experts, ethanol producers and corn farmers, and I have personally communicated my feelings about increasing the blend wall to Agriculture Secretary Vilsack and top administration officials.
I do not believe it is necessary to postpone an ethanol blend increase. By delaying, the EPA is holding back an industry that has the potential to create jobs and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. As an interim measure, even an increase to a 12 percent blend wall would have been a substantial improvement."
