It's Back

Statement

Dear Friends,

After a two month hiatus, Wilson's Weekly Watch is back in business and we certainly have a lot to catch up on!

13 Trillion Reasons to Stop Spending

Let's start with the $13 trillion debt mark that we topped just last week. Did you know that the nation's debt will soon be more than all of America's economic output a year? This rate of spending is completely unsustainable and it is high time to finally stop this runaway spending spree.

Now, more than ever, hardworking taxpayers need to step up and share ideas on how to get America's economy rolling once again. Using new media tools and interactive forums, Republicans are giving hardworking Americans a megaphone to amplify their concerns and policy ideas. Check out YouCut and AmericaSpeakingOut -- two interactive initiatives and submit your ideas.

Spending, Ron Swanson-Style

Are you a fan of NBC's Parks and Recreation? I penned an op-ed for Politico that discusses how lawmakers in Washington should take notes on Ron Swanson's spending discipline. Check out the piece by clicking here. National Review Online has a great clip from the show to correspond with the op-ed here.

Health Care Takeover -- Costs Continue to Creep Up

The latest analysis by the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office reveals that the health care takeover will cost at least $115 billion more than originally estimated. This is on the heels of last month's Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) report that highlighted how national health care costs will increase by $311 billion over the next ten years and will force millions of seniors off of their current Medicare coverage.

Washington must stop promising one thing and delivering another -- particularly when it comes to price tags. It is time for lawmakers to get serious about cutting spending and start making tough choices. If Congress continues to drag its feet, runaway deficits and unsustainable debts are sure cripple our economy and lead us down the game path as Greece.

Sincerely,
Congressman Joe Wilson
Member of Congress
