Issue Position: Education

Issue Position

The future of West Virginia starts in the classrooms. How effective our classrooms can be is a direct result of a team effort that includes our teachers, parents, and students.

Currently, West Virginia is well below the national average in compensation for teachers. In order to recruit and retain good, quality teachers to our state, we must assure that those who choose such an important profession are awarded with a competitive salary above the national average. If we fail to do this, we are failing the youth of our state. We must also address the need of adequate retirement funding (including a cost of living adjustment) for teachers so that current and future teachers may be employed with peace of mind.
