Sessions Statement on May Jobs Report

Statement

Date: June 4, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions today released the following statement in response to the Department of Labor's unemployment report for May 2010:

"While more Americans working is positive news, growing government payrolls is no cause for celebration. Temporary census jobs account for 95% of employment gains. In a matter of weeks, 411,000 census workers will find themselves unemployed once again, joining millions of other Americans looking for work in the private sector.

"With only 41,000 new private sector jobs last month, Washington should be deeply troubled by the decline in real job growth. American businesses have little reason to hire more workers when Democrats continue to assault the free enterprise system with a job-killing agenda of bigger government, higher taxes, and more rules and regulations.

"Millions of unemployed Americans understand firsthand that Democrats' economic "stimulus' policies have failed to produce promised jobs and economic growth. It's past time for Congress to make private sector job creation its top priority by championing the free enterprise system and freeing American businesses to invest, grow, and hire more workers with their own resources."
