Government should exist to serve the people, not for people to serve themselves. The taint of corruption and influence peddling grows greater whenever you look at campaign contributions. In Pennsylvania, there are no limits on campaign contributions for state elections. Because lobbyists, law firms, partnerships, political action committees and special interest groups can give significantly large sums of money to any candidate for state office, it creates the impression -- real or imagined -- that lawmakers' decisions can be bought.
That should never be the case.
As governor, Tony would lead by example. Campaign contributions will mean a shared philosophical perspective -- not access to a board appointment or a new no-bid contract. Not for the governor's office or his cabinet.
In addition, to eliminate the pay-to-play culture, Tony will prohibit any individual or organization that contributes more than $1,000 to his campaign in any election cycle from receiving a contract with the state.
