My father is a rural family physician, and I've seen first hand the difference he makes in people's lives. He treats families whether or not they have insurance. But the unfortunate reality is, rising health care costs has forced too many people to go without insurance, and avoiding regular medical check-ups that allow doctors and nurses to detect the early onset of more severe problems, such as heart attacks, diabetes, and cancer.
As State Representative, I'll fight to:
* Expand health care coverage for children, by expanding Texas' CHIP enrollment criteria to allow the maximum number of families under federal law.
* Increase the Medicaid reimbursement rates to attract more doctors and health care providers to underserved areas.
* Advocate for federal funding for a South Texas Veterans Hospital to fulfill our nation's promise to those who served.
* Strengthen health education curriculum in our public schools to combat the rise of diabetes and obesity among our youth.
