Funding public education

Texas currently ranks at or near the bottom among states in funding for public education -- we can and must do better. Our state constitution guarantees every Texas child the right to a public education, and we must commit the resources necessary to meet that obligation. Far too many of our teachers are leaving the profession and far too many of our students are dropping out and not graduating. We must give our schools the resources they need, and ensure they are wisely used.

Empowering our teachers to improve school performance

Teachers are the backbone of our public education system, but too many are leaving the classroom after years of frustration, while it is becoming increasingly difficult to attract high quality people to this vitally important profession. We must empower our teachers by paying them respectably and giving them back control of the classroom. Therefore, I support initiatives that de-emphazies the significance of the TAKS test so that teachers can teach more than just how to pass the test they can dedicate more time to helping all students master a college prepatory curriclaum. Investing in our educators is key to LEAVING NO CHILD BEHIND.
