Van Hollen Statement On GOP Obstructionism

Statement

Today Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Assistant to the Speaker, joined Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Senator Benjamin L. Cardin, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, and Congresswoman Debbie Halvorson at a news conference to discuss continued GOP obstructionism and its impact on American families and small businesses. Congressman Van Hollen released the following statement:

"Senator Bunning's actions are part of a larger problem occurring in the Senate, where Republicans are holding hostage a whole host of bills for purely political reasons. But while Senator Bunning put a face on the problem, this has been occurring since President Obama took office. This plan to stand in the way of help for American families is clearly the Republican Roadmap for our nation, as GOP leadership has made abundantly clear they are not interested in compromise.

"Americans need and deserve better than partisanship and obstructionism. Working class families deserve better than recycled policies that got us into the economic mess we currently face. Our seniors deserve better than yet another effort to dismantle Medicare and privatize Social Security. I urge my Republican colleagues to put the interests of American families over their party and join us in moving our nation forward."
