Statement

Date: Feb. 4, 2010
Location: Washington, DC

Today Congressman Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) issued the following statement on House passage of the Cybersecurity Enhancement Act of 2009:

"Today's passage of the bipartisan Cybersecurity Enhancement Act of 2009 marks a significant investment in an issue that affects both our national and personal security. Cybersecurity is a critical issue in a world with increasing reliance on information systems, and Congress takes this growing threat to the nation's cyber network seriously.

"Maryland, with its unparalleled talent, experienced federal agencies, vibrant private sector, and world-class universities, is a national leader in this vital security effort. The National Institute of Standards and Technology, a key player in the nation's cybersecurity effort which is located in my Congressional District, has already done pioneering work in information security and will receive additional funding as part of this legislation.

"Cybersecurity is an issue that affects all of us, and the federal government will continue to work with states to ensure we are safe. This legislation will harness relevant U.S. government resources into a coordinated approach to the problem, and I am proud to have joined my colleagues in passing it."
