Moran's Statement On New Tanker Competition

Statement

Date: Sept. 24, 2009
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Jerry Moran made the following statement after a briefing today by Air Force Secretary Michael Donley and other Department of Defense officials on the new refueling tanker competition.

"I was encouraged at a briefing today that the Pentagon's third attempt to compete for the refueling tanker contract will be less subjective and will correct many of the problems that plagued the last round. However, I am concerned that the selection will not take into account the World Trade Organization's recent decision that Airbus received illegal subsidies to develop an aircraft that will unfairly benefit the Northrop-EADS bid. It is critical for Kansas workers, the U.S. military and American taxpayers that Boeing be given a fair shot at this contract," said Moran.
