Representative Heinrich Statement on Jobs Losses & Unemployment Report
U.S. Representative Martin Heinrich (NM-1), issued the following statement today regarding the report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics this morning informing that the U.S. economy lost another 598,000 jobs in January - the largest one-month loss since December 1974:
"This staggering loss of jobs reinforces the dire need for swift, bold action to turn our economy around. Under the failed Bush economic policies, New Mexico's working families were left behind while Wall Street CEOs were given major tax breaks and golden parachutes.
"Last week, I voted for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act which will create good jobs for the 1st Congressional District and provide much needed tax relief for those hit the hardest by this economic downturn: our working families. It is my hope that the Senate will work to get this bill to President Obama's desk as soon as is prudently possible."
