Memorial Day Statement from Creigh Deeds

Today, Virginia gubernatorial candidate and State Senator Creigh Deeds released the following statement after visiting the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth:

"On this Memorial Day, we pay tribute to the men and women who have answered the call to defend and protect our country, and the bravery of the thousands of Americans who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our great nation.

There's no greater purpose than to protect our nation and no greater contribution one can make than to answer the call to serve.

As we pay tribute to our nation's fallen heroes today, we also honor our brave men and women currently serving overseas in Iraq, Afghanistan, and all across the world.

But we must honor their service with more than just words. We can never repay our veterans and active-duty service members for their sacrifices, but we can honor them with the quality health care and benefits they have earned.

My wife Pam and I urge everyone to reflect on the sacrifices of so many Americans and give thanks for their service to our great nation."
