Boozman Introduces Corps Legislation

Rep. John Boozman (R-AR) today introduced the "Army Corps of Engineers Recreation Improvement Act," which would require a minimum of 80 percent of collected recreational user fees to be reinvested at the Corps of Engineers projects where they were collected. This legislation would result in millions of dollars of annual reinvestment in state recreational facilities.

"Money outdoor enthusiasts spend in Arkansas should stay in Arkansas," Boozman said. "This is common sense legislation that allows us to benefit from the number of people enjoying the Natural State. In turn those users will be able to see how their money is being spent to maintain and improve the facilities and resources that attract them to the area."

During the 2007 fiscal year, the Corps of Engineers collected nearly $4 million in fees in Arkansas. Under this new legislation, more than $3.1 million would have been reinvested at Arkansas Corps facilities instead of being sent to Washington.
