Boozman Statement on Presidential Address
U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today issued the following statement on President Obama's address to lawmakers.
"President Obama made it clear that we are facing great challenges. I'm confident our greatest days are ahead but we are confronting difficulties that we haven't experienced before and we need to work together to tackle these issues. We can overcome these hurdles by working together to strengthen the economy, protect and create jobs and secure our retirement savings.
We are committed to partnering with the President to seek solutions for the work we have to accomplish, but it is my obligation to my constituents and all Americans to offer better solutions and alternative ideas to help this country recover.
I agree that we need to be fiscally responsible and we can start by controlling government spending. We cannot spend our way to continued prosperity. This economic environment cannot be blamed on one thing. The credit crunch that is influencing how banks lend money and how we are able to finance homes, cars and higher education is intertwined with the housing crisis and our rate of job growth. We need to focus on finding solutions for the engines that drive our economy; the concerns of middle-class families and small businesses.
We need to protect American interests at home and abroad and we must support our troops. We cannot cut funding to our service members who are working to keep us safe against terrorism. I'm hoping we can find a common ground to maintain the resources our military needs to be victorious test.
Americans have overcome challenges in the past and we will work together to conquer our obstacles again.
