Titus Reaffirms Commitment to Protecting Social Security

Receives Endorsement of Alliance for Retired Americans

Third Congressional District Candidate Dina Titus held a news conference today with the Alliance for Retired Americans to discuss her commitment to protecting Social Security for America's seniors and the retirement security of all Americans. She was joined by the President of the Nevada Alliance for Retired Americans, Scott Watts.

"Nevada and our nation are facing serious challenges that are threatening the retirement security of all Americans. In the last 15 months, retirement plans have lost $2 trillion," said Titus. "As a member of Congress I will commit to protecting Social Security, which 130,000 Nevadans rely on for a dignified retirement. My opponent, on the other hand, has supported private investment that would put money in the stock market and turn a guaranteed benefit into a risky gamble while providing billions of dollars for in fees for the same Wall Street firms that helped create our economic crisis."

"Retirees in Nevada are very anxious. Not only are they concerned about their own retirement security, but they worry about what lies ahead for their children and grandchildren," said Watts, whose state organization represents over 15,000 members. "As a State Senator, Dina Titus has been a champion for Nevada's seniors, and as a member of Congress, she will build on her efforts by working to protect Social Security for millions of Americans."

For 73 years, Social Security benefits have been paid on time and in full every single month. Privatizing the program would slash benefits for middle-class Americans by more than 40 percent, replace a guaranteed benefit, and cost trillions of dollars. Attached is a comparison by the Alliance of Retired Americans of Dina Titus and Jon Porter on the issues of importance to Nevada's seniors.
