We always suspected it, and now they've proven us right. The Republicans in Washington have attempted to privatize Social Security and much to their chagrin, they have found out just how popular and essential Social Security is to seniors in America.
I serve on the Social Security Subcommittee on Ways and Means and have been on the front lines in fighting the Republican's failed privatization plan. Social Security is the most successful domestic program we have had in America. This program has added years to life and life to years for seniors across America.
Maintaining the strong financial viability of Social Security is a priority of mine. From time to time the program will need to be adjusted in order to reflect changing demographics in our country. But this can be done, and has been done, without violating the contract that presently exists between workers, the government and seniors in America.
