Congresswoman Betty McCollum has strongly disagreed with the Bush Administration's aggressive military intervention and occupation of Iraq. The policies put forth by the White House and the Pentagon have resulted in the deaths of over 2,000 U.S. troops, nearly 20,000 Iraqis and incalculable destruction as well as hardship for the Iraqi people.
In addition to the tremendous human cost there is the financial cost of this war which now exceeds $200 billion - of which none has yet to be paid for by today's taxpayers, but instead borrowed money for our children and grandchildren to pay back for decades to come.
Our troops in Iraq need our support and they need voices in Congress who are courageous enough to speak out against this president's failed leadership and offer a plan to succeed in Iraq and a successful strategy to bring our troops home.
