Issues

We face many difficult issues in our country today. Families are struggling to make the monthly budget because of high gas prices and this poor economy. Stifling taxes, regulations and laws coupled with out of control spending account for a large part of the problem. We are losing our prosperity, sovereignty and liberty one borrowed dollar, regulation and law at a time. Republicans had control of the House, Senate and Presidency and the problems got worse. The Democrats are not solving problems now. Many politicians prefer to demagogue an issue than resolve an issue. Too many in Congress, including incumbent Marsha Blackburn, have become self serving.

As a lifelong Republican, I believe in and support the Republican Party; however, I will not be a rubber stamp for a political party or President. I will be true to the constitution and the conservative principles that made Ronald Reagan one of our greatest Presidents and gave Republicans the majority in 1994.

I believe our country would be more prosperous and secure if we adhered more closely to the principles laid out in George Washington's farewell address. He warned of "foreign intrigue" and the "accumulation of debt". Regarding political parties, he warned of the "fury of party spirit" that could be so divisive. He also promoted the necessity of a religious and moral foundation stating, "Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports." Our nation has strayed from the foundational principles which have made it great.

The good news is that we can return to the principles that make our country great. To do so, we must reform the Republican Party by replacing the incumbents who became self serving and squandered their chance. With new leadership, we can renew the promise our conservative principles hold for solving today's problems. Only after reforming our party and renewing our promises, will we have the opportunity to return to majority power and actually implement conservative policy.

When I think of the relationship citizens have to our government, I think of Jeremiah 18:6, "Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand." God has blessed us with freedom and a democracy in which our citizens have the right and the responsibility to mold our country's future with their hands. Will you put your hands to the clay of our democracy and shape it for the good or will you leave it to someone else's hands to shape it as they see fit? If you are willing to contribute your money and time to this campaign, we will win and make a difference for the good.

Let's take this opportunity to say "no more business as usual".

I will work effectively for conservative Republican principles to produce a smaller, less intrusive government:

* Make current tax cuts permanent and then further reduce taxes to truly stimulate the economy

* Stop spending money the U.S. does not have, and therefore must borrow from foreign countries like China (the top holder of U.S. debt)

* Stop earmarks and pork-barrel spending that help create huge deficits

* Allow more domestic oil production, eliminate regulations that restrict refining and repeal federal regulations that impede the development of new energy sources

* Win the war on terror abroad & protect our citizens at home

* Secure our borders and enforce existing immigration laws

* Simplify tax code & reduce regulations on business

* Support a constitutional amendment to protect the sanctity of life and marriage

* Support our right to keep and bear arms
