Capito: ‘Misguided AMT Bill Once Again Falls Short'

Congresswoman Says Leadership Bill is Precursor for Higher Gas Prices

Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) released the following statement today after voting to oppose legislation backed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) that would raise taxes and lead to increased gas prices:

"Once again my colleagues in House Leadership have chosen to push a misguided and short-sighted bill on the Alternative Minimum Tax," said Capito. "The bill we considered today would hike taxes at a time when our economy is struggling.

"Their bill will also raise taxes on domestic energy production, which is sure to increase gas prices when we should be passing legislation to promote a comprehensive plan to lower them.

"Last year we passed a bipartisan AMT fix that did not include a tax increase. Why should West Virginians expect anything less this time around?"
