After a lifetime of paying into Social Security and Medicare, America's seniors should be able to count on these programs to provide a stable and secure retirement. It is a sacred pact with our senior citizens which must be protected.
Keeping seniors healthy ultimately saves lives and taxpayer dollars. That's why I voted to strengthen Medicare by allowing the government to negotiate directly with drug companies for lower prescription drug prices. I also supported increased access to preventive screenings and tests under Medicare, including for glaucoma, diabetes and bone mass.
In addition, I will strongly oppose any plan to privatize Social Security or reduce benefits. Social Security has worked to provide seniors retirement security for over 70 years. I will work to protect the program for today's seniors and the coming generation of beneficiaries. I have worked hard to help seniors navigate the Social Security Administration bureaucracy and get the benefits to which they're entitled.
