The Bureau of Land Management said this week it would incorporate the state of Wyoming's ideas in its own plan to manage the sage grouse in the Powder River Basin. Wyoming's U.S. Senators Mike Enzi and John Barrasso, both R-Wyo., offered the following comments.

"The sage grouse are important to Wyoming, but Wyoming jobs are crucial. Right now, it looks like we're on a track to protect both. I think we'll stay on that track as long as the BLM follows the governor's lead," Enzi said.

"There is much at stake for Wyoming's businesses, livelihoods and families. The BLM has reaffirmed that they will work with Wyoming to prevent an Endangered Species Act listing for the sage grouse. It is imperative that the federal government recognize the extraordinary Wyoming efforts to protect the sage grouse," Barrasso said.
