CORNYN: BUSH JOB TRAINING PLAN THE RIGHT DIRECTION
Job growth initiative will provide better training for better jobs
DALLAS-U.S. Sen. John Cornyn made the following statement regarding President Bush's announcement Monday of a new initiative to provide American workers with better training for better jobs:
"I strongly support President Bush's initiative to send $250 million to community colleges for the ongoing education and training of workers. I will do all I can to make sure Texas receives its fair share when Congress approves the plan.
"This new workforce training initiative will grow jobs and help Americans achieve, and is important for America's growing and changing economy. Many of us have to retrain for new jobs, but that shouldn't discourage us - rather we should turn the challenge into an opportunity."
"The community college workforce training initiative is critical in our efforts to continue growing the economy, and give people the training and education they need to succeed in challenging careers.
"There are some who are cynical and talk down the economy. They would prefer to focus on unemployment rather than encouraging people to continue their education and train for higher paying jobs. There's a lot of positive news on the economy and many great opportunities - and Bush is right to highlight that."
