Statement

I'm in this race because our nation faces scores of challenges and America needs solutions. We don't need a member of Congress that bows to lobbyists and special interests. I'm running because we need strong leadership that will provide fresh ideas to address our country's pressing challenges. We need leaders who will stand up to bring our troops home from Iraq, provide health care for all Americans, move America toward energy independence, protect our Constitutional liberties and create new, good paying jobs.

I have the right kind of experience to bring real change to Washington. I have written and passed legislation. I've built coalitions and brought people together to achieve change. And, I've stood up to big money special interests. I have a record of tackling tough issues and getting things done. Despite long odds and in the face of thousands of special interests dollars, I stood up for increasing the minimum wage. And, thanks to the support of a strong grassroots movement, together, we defeated the special interests and gave hard working New Mexico families the raise they deserved.
