Issue Position: Global Warming and Our Environment
We now have sufficient scientific evidence about the risks of global warming to justify more aggressive responses to the problem. As a major generator of greenhouse gases, the United States must take a leadership role in the effort to protect the environment. Recent measures by Congress, including raising of mileage standards for automobiles and requirements for more efficient light bulbs, have been important. We also must do more to promote wind and other cleaner energy supplies; tax incentives to spur investment in 21st century renewable fuels are important here.
David has voted for legislation that would implement green standards for new public buildings to ensure energy efficiency. He also has voted to protect the environment from the manure and wastewater generated by hog farms and other confined feeding operations.
