Issue Position: Transportation
Senator Reed understands that a robust public transportation system increases mobility for all Rhode Islanders, reduces congestion on our roadways, and improves the quality of life for everyone in our state. Mass transit is also an environmentally friendly way to conserve energy and reduce emissions. Senator Reed has helped secure hundreds of millions of federal dollars to improve Rhode Island's roads, railways, bridges, and airports. As a member of the Banking Committee and the top Democrat on the subcommittee that oversees mass transit programs, Senator Reed helped increase the funding available to densely populated states, like Rhode Island, where bus and rail programs play a vital role in helping people travel to and from work and other destinations. He has also helped secure funding to buy new buses and modernize and enhance critical mass transit projects that will help ease traffic congestion and offer an alternative to the stress and environmental impact of driving.
