Capito Announces Grant for Housing Authority

Program Supports Job Training and Education for At-Risk Youth

Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) announced today that the Randolph County Housing Authority has been awarded $447,593 from the Department of Labor. The funding will come as a grant to support the Housing Authority's YouthBuild program for disadvantaged youth.

"This is a fantastic program that's making a difference in central West Virginia," said Capito. "These young people receive important job training and mentoring opportunities while also making a difference for low-income families in their communities."

YouthBuild serves youth between the ages of 16 and 24 who have yet to receive a high school diploma. Program participants split time between the classroom - where they earn their degree - and the construction site - where they build and repair homes for low-income residents in their communities. The program also provides mentoring and helps prepare students for college and other postsecondary learning opportunities.

The YouthBuild program expects to enroll more than 50 youth over the next two years throughout Randolph, Barbour and Upshur Counties.
