Urges extension focusing on poor children while protecting seniors

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today called on House leadership to pass a clean, bipartisan, extension of the State Children's Health Insurance Program before the September 30 deadline.

"It is important that we have the opportunity to consider SCHIP legislation which is free from tax increases, Medicare cuts, or other gimmicks which hampers the extension of an important program which benefits children who do not have health insurance," Boozman said.

In August, Boozman voted against a House plan to expand SCHIP while cutting nearly $200 billion from seniors participating in the Medicare Advantage program. According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, more than 39,000 Arkansans are enrolled in the program.

"It is my hope that we will be able to vote on a clean bill, which focuses on the poor, while not stripping funding from seniors, raise taxes, or inflate the size of government to such an extent that the President would have no choice but to veto it."
