Honoring Our Nation's Fallen
Congressman Joe Courtney released the following statement honoring America's fallen soldiers in observance of Memorial Day:
Millions of Americans throughout the United States will celebrate Memorial Day by gathering with friends and family for a backyard barbeque. Millions more will spend the holiday in a more somber way by honoring our nation's servicemen and women who have fallen while serving our country.
Since America's War of Independence our nation's servicemen and women have protected our way of life and our democracy. For those who have paid the ultimate price in defense of our freedoms, and to their families, I offer my appreciation and gratitude to their families and I promise to do all that I can to honor that sacrifice.
Some of Connecticut's bravest sons and daughters have been lost while serving the United States in uniform. I ask all residents to keep those fine men and women in their thoughts and prayers. Americans may debate policy, but there will never be any shortage of respect and gratitude for those who were killed in action.
As the 110th Congress continues to lead our nation in a new direction, I remain committed to equipping America's troops overseas with the best tools and resources available so that they may serve ably and return home as soon as possible.
When they return home they deserve no less than the highest quality health care. And for our nation's veterans, I will continue to commit myself to making sure you have all the benefits that you have earned and deserve.
Our nation is unique in the world for it is founded on guiding principles and a Constitution prescribing our 'inalienable' rights. America's courageous begin their service with an oath to defend these principles and to defend our indivudal freedom. They do not swear to a monarchy or any partisan political party, but rather commit their allegiance to protect our democracy.
