Boozman Backs Photo ID Security

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Immigration

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today announced his opposition to banks issuing credit cards to illegal immigrants and support for increasing the security of the banking system by co-sponsoring the Photo Identification Security Act.

H.R. 1314, introduced by Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), would require both the federal government and banking institutions to accept only secure forms of identification, which include documents which establish that immigrants to the United States are in the country legally.

"This is a basic common-sense bill," Boozman said. "Legal immigrants in the United States already have the proper documentation which would allow a bank, and the federal government, to verify their identification. By closing this loophole in the law, banks would no longer be able to target illegal immigrants as a source of revenue, and we can prevent the undermining of the American financial system."

The legislation has been referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
