U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today announced his support of legislation which will strengthen community pharmacies by agreeing to co-sponsor H.R. 971, The Community Pharmacy Fairness Act.
The bipartisan bill, sponsored by Reps. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) and Jerry Moran (R-KS), allows independent pharmacies, not owned by a publicly traded company, the same leverage larger chains enjoy when negotiating Medicare Part D and other third-party contracts.
"This is common-sense legislation which will mean more access, more choices and cheaper prescription drug prices for Americans," Boozman said. "Ninety-five percent of all Americans live within five miles of a community pharmacy. These are places staffed with people all of us know and trust. This legislation levels the playing field between independent pharmacies and bigger chains and I am proud to work with a bipartisan group to help Americans."
