110th Congress:

The 110th Congress convened on January 4, 2007, and will end on January 3, 2009. This is the first time that the Democrats have controlled both the House of Representatives and the Senate since the 103rd Congress (12 years). You can keep up with the 110th Congress on my website as well as U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives websites.

Teen Dating Violence:

It is very likely that someone you know has been affected by teen dating violence. Recent statistics reveal that an astounding one in three teens have knowledge of an abusive dating relationship. The abuse is physical, emotional or both and is used by the abuser to exert power and control over a partner. Although the vast majority of the victims of teen dating violence are young women, teen dating violence crosses gender, racial, economic and social lines.

Lobbying Reform:

On January 18th the Senate passed S.1, the Legislative Transparency and Accountability Act of 2007. This lobbying reform and ethics bill requires more disclosure of gifts, travel and lobbying activity. I voted in favor of S.1.

February is American Heart Month:

During February we often think of Valentine's Day and images of hearts. But the heart is much more than a symbol - it is also the vital organ that pumps blood throughout our body. We tend to take our heart for granted until our own heart or that of a loved one stops working properly. Regrettably, nearly 80 million American adults suffer from heart disease, stroke, or some other form of cardiovascular disease. Heart disease is our nation's No. 1 killer. Each year the President designates February as American Heart Month. During February, each of us can take a few easy steps to fight heart disease. For example, we can eat right and exercise. We can also participate in an activity, such as a Go Red for Women luncheon or a CPR class.
For a list of Heart Month activities going on in Idaho during February, please visit the American Heart Association's website.
