Boozman Takes Pledge for Schoolchildren
U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today signed the "Pledge to America's Schoolchildren," while meeting with representatives of the Arkansas School Boards Association.
The pledge, crafted by the National School Boards Association, reads:
As a Member of Congress, I pledge to work and vote to:
* Improve the No Child Left Behind Act to give my school district(s) better measures for student and school performance, and the support needed to close the achievement gap.
* Help my school district(s) meet the needs of students with disabilities by supporting the funding goals of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA).
* Support school readiness programs for children entering kindergarten in my school district(s).
* Help my school districts(s) attract, train and retain highly qualified and effective teachers.
* Help my school district(s) to provide all students with 21st Century skills and knowledge, including math, science and technology.
"I am more than happy to take this pledge to work for improving the education of children in the 3rd District, and all of Arkansas," Boozman, a former member of the Rogers School Board, said. "The No Child Left Behind Act has proven to be a good catalyst to close the achievement gap of minority students.
"I look forward to working with the Arkansas delegation to create more opportunities for our children to receive a better education, and succeed in life," Boozman said.
