CONGRESSMAN HANK JOHNSON'S STATEMENT ON FIRST 100 HOURS OF 110th CONGRESS

As the first 100 hours draw to a close, I am very proud that the 110th Congress has acted decisively to keep our Six for '06 pledge to the American people and particularly to citizens of the 4th District of Georgia.

Through the dynamic leadership of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, this Congress has achieved phenomenal legislative success and rendered a profound start to my first term.

Within this historic window, we have introduced legislation to raise the minimum wage, cut interest rates on subsidized student loans, directed the Department of Health and Human Services to negotiate lower prescription drug prices, ended $14 billion in subsidies to Big Oil and invested in renewable energy, expanded stem cell research, and enacted all of the 9/11 Commission recommendations. Lastly, we have opposed the President's new direction on the Iraq war and continue to insist that we bring our troops home as soon as is responsibly possible.

This is what Americans want, what my constituents in DeKalb, Rockdale, and Gwinnett counties support, and why I am proud of my first 100 hours in the 110 th Congress.
