Boozman Supports Affordable Healthcare
U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today voted to further reform the abused earmark system and to move forward with giving small business owners more access to providing healthcare to their employees by voting for a Motion to Commit on H.Res. 6, the House Rules Package for the 110th Congress.
The motion would bring up for consideration H.R. 214, an amendment to the Employee Retirement Security Act of 1974.
The motion failed to pass on a party-line vote.
"Government should take steps to ensure that quality and affordable health care is accessible to our growing workforce," Boozman said. "Unfortunately, the traditional system, burdened by excessive government regulation, ends up driving up health care costs.
"I wish to work with Democrats to make it possible for the many small business employers in the 3rd District to offer the same health benefits to their workers as large employers and unions are able to offer their employees," Boozman added.
In addition, the motion would change the Rules of the House to prohibit earmarks unless they are disclosed publicly. Boozman has previously voted for transparency in the earmark process, voting in September 2006 to change House Rules to prevent anonymous earmarks from inclusion in legislation.
