Boozman on "First 100 Hours"
U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today issued the following statement on the "first 100 hours" Democratic legislative plan for the start of the 110th Congress:
"As we begin a new Congress, the nation will witness the historic election of Nancy Pelosi to Speaker of the House of Representatives. The office of the Speaker is an institution in our government, and the ascension of Mrs. Pelosi to it begins another chapter in the great history of the People's House.'
"I pledge to work in a bipartisan manner to benefit the people of the 3rd District of Arkansas, increase the security of our borders, find ways to win the Global War on Terror, support the efforts of troops and veterans who secure our freedoms, and continue to follow the tax policies which have lead to unprecedented levels of job creation and robust economy.
"While I promise to work with Mrs. Pelosi, the agenda she wishes to rush through the first 100 hours' deserves a fair amount of scrutiny. The people demanded a bipartisan government, an ethical government, and a fiscally responsible government. Beginning Thursday, Mrs. Pelosi will renege on her promise of bipartisanship and use parliamentary procedures to prevent Republicans from offering anything substantive to the debate.
"It would seem Mrs. Pelosi, and the Democrats, are happy to ignore the demands of the voters in order to score a few headlines, and live up to a catchy slogan.
"The nation sent us to Washington to work on the problems facing it, and to do it in a civil manner where the voters' voices can be heard. I call on the new leadership of the House to fulfill their promise to America: true bipartisanship so that we can all have a voice in the People's business."
