Post Election - 2006 Thoughts
I would like to first and foremost thank the voters of Ohio's Third Congressional District for entrusting me with a third-term as your advocate in Washington D.C. It is an honor to serve you, which I remember on a daily basis.
I am proud of the campaign we ran. As I spoke with people I heard how they were inundated with negative campaign messages in television and radio commercials, in their mail boxes and during campaign debates. I am proud because we ran only positive commercials and messages about my record during this campaign.
I would like to use this opportunity to thank all residents of Ohio's Third District who exercised there Constitutional right to vote. Congratulations on participating in the great American institution called democracy. I would especially like to thank the individuals who gave there time and effort to work diligently on campaigns throughout the state. Without volunteer workers it would be impossible for candidates to get their message out throughout a large area, such as the Third Congressional District.
During my third term, I look forward to focusing on the economic issues facing Ohio and our region. These will include continuing to work on the successes we achieved at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base last year during the BRAC process. Now that new jobs and missions are scheduled to come to the base, we must follow through and make sure that these jobs are actually delivered. Also I look forward to working to help rebuild America's cities and working to continue to help the Third District's farmers. Further, our manufacturers must have the opportunity to compete on a level playing field.
I look forward to working on a bipartisan basis to solve the challenges facing our nation and advance issues of importance to the Third Congressional District. We face challenges such as winning the war on terror; delivering on a national energy policy, immigration reform that enforces existing laws while protecting our borders, and ensure that Social Security makes good on its promise to take care of seniors now and in the future.
The 109th Congress will meet over the next few weeks where we will mainly work on passing the remaining appropriation bills which are Congress' primary responsibility before adjourning. This includes the fiscal year 07 Labor Health and Human Services bill that includes funding for programs that are important for our region, such as education and health initiatives.
In January the new 110th Congress will meet. I look forward to being one of the Members in Congress who works in the best interests of getting the people's work done. I am honored to serve as your advocate in Washington. I will never forget the reasons why you sent me to Washington and do my best to live up to your expectations every day.
