McNerney Supports Full VA Funding

California 11th Congressional District candidate Jerry McNerney today urged Congress to pass the Veterans Health Care Act of 2005. The bill would establish a permanent funding formula for VA facilities to rely on.

"VA healthcare has been underfunded for too long." Veterans for McNerney spokesperson Bill Evans said. "Thousands of qualified veterans are not receiving the healthcare they need because local VA facilities do not have adequate funds to hire the doctors, nurses and technicians to provide that care."

H.R. 515, introduced by Rep. Lane Evans, has received bi-partisan support and has been stuck in committee for over a year and a half. This bill would secure the future of the VA hospital in Livermore that serves vets from the 11th district. Of the 140 bill sponsors, Richard Pombo is not on the list.

"It's time to throw out politicians, like Richard Pombo, who believe that veterans are now expendable because they no longer bear arms." Lt. Col. Evans said. "Jerry McNerney will be a strong voice in Washington for keeping our nation's promise to those who served."
