Wall Campaign: Statement on the Passage of CAFTA

Jamie Wall, Democratic candidate for Congress, today released the following statement on the passage of CAFTA:

"I am deeply disappointed that the U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass the Central American Free Trade Agreement last night.

I would have voted against this ill-conceived trade agreement. Congress should stand up for American workers and consumers - and our long-term economic growth - by passing trade agreements with enforceable labor and environmental standards.

No trade agreement should stop the U.S. government from protecting the environment or the health and well-being of American citizens.

Put simply, new trade agreements must protect workers' rights and environmental standards as vigorously as they now protect commercial interests."
