Buchanan Applauds Private Property Rights Act

Vern Buchanan, Republican Congressional Candidate for Florida's 13th District, released the following statement regarding the recent passage of United States House of Representatives Bill 4128, the Private Property Rights Protection Act of 2005. The bill passed 376-38.

"The right to own property is a cornerstone American principle. Last Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Private Property Rights Protection Act in an effort to safeguard Americans from frivolous takings of their homes and properties.

The U.S. Constitution limits the exercise of eminent domain to instances of public use, such as hospitals, schools and roads. I support the principle that eminent domain should only be invoked in rare cases of recognized public benefit.

I applaud this important piece of legislation that restores the rights of American homeowners."
