Moran Announces Kansas Livestock Producers to Receive Additional Drought Relief

Emergency CRP Haying and Grazing Rental Payments Reduced and Eligible Acres Expanded

Congressman Jerry Moran today announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will further assist producers suffering from drought in Kansas. For all Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) land approved for emergency haying and grazing, USDA's Farm Service Agency (FSA) will reduce the payment reduction from the previously announced 25 percent to 10 percent. USDA also announced expanded acreage is eligible for emergency haying and grazing beyond the Kansas counties previously approved for haying and grazing.

"I am pleased to see USDA furthering efforts to assist livestock producers in Kansas and across the Great Plains," Moran said. "The reduced payment will benefit all producers, and the expanded areas will help those outside of the designated counties that are also suffering from the effects of the drought."

CRP participants who prepaid the 25 percent payment reduction will have the difference refunded. The additional coverage area expands 150 miles out from any county approved for emergency haying and grazing, which covers the entire First District. Kansas counties previously approved include Cherokee, Cheyenne, Clark, Comanche, Decatur, Edwards, Ellis, Ellsworth, Finney, Ford, Gove, Graham, Grant, Gray, Greeley, Hamilton, Haskell, Hodgeman, Kearny, Lane, Lincoln, Logan, Meade, Morton, Ness, Osborne, Rawlins, Rush, Russell, Scott, Seward, Sherman, Stanton, Stevens, Thomas, Trego, Wallace and Wichita.

CRP participants should submit applications with their local FSA office. For more information on emergency haying and grazing and to view a map of approved counties and the approximate 150-mile radius eligible for the expanded program, visit FSA's website at http://www.fsa.usda.gov/ and click "Conservation."

Moran is a senior member of the House Committee on Agriculture.
