"Thank you, everyone, for that illuminating discussion.
I think we will all leave the room today with a better understanding of both the risks and opportunities created by high-impact AI applications.
Above all, I think our discussion made three things clear:
First, there are very real harms that high-impact AI applications can cause -- especially to those in
marginalized communities -- if bias in AI technologies is left unchecked.
Second, as much as AI technologies can marginalize and perpetuate bias, it can also empower
communities and uphold the values of justice and equality if done right.
And that brings me to my third point: that the federal government must be involved in creating
guardrails to mitigate bias in AI, especially in these high impact use cases.
Like every tool, AI's impact will be determined not only by its design, but also by the hands and powers wielding it.
So, it is on us to ensure that existing and emerging AI technologies are aligned with our values, aligned with our laws, and that they are deployed for the benefit of ALL Americans.
That will require all of us working together both in and out of Congress to come up with the strongest
legislation to balance both innovation and guardrails.
Thank you again for participating today, and I look forward to working with you all on this issue in the
coming months."
